Hosting and server data (Cloudflare)#
This website is delivered through Cloudflare, which I use as a proxy and hosting provider. To deliver the site, Cloudflare necessarily processes technical data such as your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, and your browser type. As Cloudflare operates this infrastructure, I have no influence over what data it collects or which cookies it may set, and — as Cloudflare is based in the USA — data may be processed outside the EU. This processing is necessary to deliver the website reliably and securely; the legal basis is Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR (my legitimate interest in operating the site). Such data is retained only as long as required for these purposes.
Cookies and local storage#
I set no cookies and use no tracking. The site stores a single technical preference — your choice of light or dark appearance — in your browser’s local storage. This setting remains on your device and is not transmitted to me or any third party.
External links#
This site links to external services (for example GitHub, LinkedIn, ORCID, Google Scholar, and CSIRO). No content from these services is embedded, so they receive no data from your visit unless you follow a link. Once you do, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies.
Contact by email#
If you contact me by email, I process the information you provide solely to respond to your enquiry, on the same legal basis as above, and retain it only for as long as that requires.
Your rights#
You have the right to request access to the personal data I hold about you, and to its rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to its processing (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR); the authority responsible for this website is Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen in Hannover.
